What Should You Have Decided Before Meeting With an Interior Designer?

You don’t need to have every detail figured out before meeting with a designer, but thinking through a few priorities can make the initial planning process more productive. Start by identifying what isn’t working in your current space. Limited storage, an inefficient layout, poor lighting, outdated finishes, or inadequate workspace can all help define the goals for your remodel.

It also helps to have a general budget range and examples of styles, colors, or materials you’re drawn to. These don’t need to represent final decisions. They simply give your designer a better understanding of your preferences and priorities.

Julie Miller Designs provides space planning, design concepts and layouts, AutoCAD drawings, electrical and plumbing layouts, finish selections, estimating, and coordination with architects and contractors.

The goal of your first conversations isn’t to arrive with a completed design. It’s to communicate how you use the space, what you want to change, and what matters most so those ideas can be developed into a functional design plan.
